Showdown in syrian town of Arbil, Iraq (CNN) Iraq’s government has ordered its army to begin air strikes in Mosul after Iraqi government forces pushed ISIS militants out of their remaining Sunni strongholds in Iraq’s largest city.

The Mosul offensive by the military and allied Shi’ite militias launched on Sunday is aimed at dislodging ISIS, which seized most of the provincial capital in 2014, and has faced샌즈 카지노 growing international criticism from rights activists.

It also comes as Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi속초안마 makes his first trip to Iraq since taking office following ISIS’s seizure of the capital, and where he said the armed forces can and must take the fight to ISIS.

The Sunni militant group now controls a vast swathe of territory in Iraq and Syria and is fighting to establish an Islamic state stretching from Iraq to Iran and into Lebanon.

The Islamic State group was ousted from large swathes of northern Iraq and Syria earlier this month when Iraqi forces drove them out. A US-led coalition led by the US and its allies is also aiding Iraqi forces in the area.

A statement from al-Abadi’s office said coalition special operations forces will participate in the fight in Mosul in cooperation with the Iraqis’ counterterrorism troops.

Iraq’s parliament has passed a law allowing him to issue air strikes without parliament’s approval if they are targeting ISIS, al-Abadi’s office said.

The Iraqi air force, however, has said this is not sufficient to take out both ISIS and the group that controls major areas near Mosul, where the forces, backed by American-led air strikes, have already taken back large parts of a key district.

Abadi’s office said that the operation would begin at nightfall from the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan on Monday.

The statement said: 제주안마“It will take place in the morning… as soon as the air force can reach and clear the enemy positions and establish the proper level of visibility for operations to go ahead.”
