The US Treasury Department, in a decision taken at the weekend, announced the appointment of George Papadopoulos, the former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, to become deputy assistant secretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs under Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Papadopoulos pleaded gu시흥출장마사지 시흥안마ilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign, but his appointment at the Treasury Department is a signal of further politicization of the US foreign policy establishment.

Papadopoulos, a former foreign policy aide to the Republican nominee, had a long and successful career in Washington politics. He was the Washington office director of the Republican National Committee, and he is an adviser for the American Conservative Union, a right-wing think tank.

In June 2016, the day before Trump won the GOP presidential nomination, Papadopoulos had a brief conversation with a young Russian who claimed to have contact with Russian officials. He provided information and contacts that he had with members of the Russian government and was “confident” that such contacts would be used against Clinton, the Democratic front-runner.

Two days later, Papadopoulos wrote an email to another person offering that he could assist with “the dissemination of information that would hurt Hillary Clinton and her ties to Russia.” This was not a foreign policy proposal, but was a proposal that the foreign policy establishment viewed as having a similar agenda to that of Trump.

Papadopoulos was described in court documents as a “volunteer” of the Trump campaign. He had worked there as a policy adviser. During the 2016 campaign, he had offered to provide Clinton with damaging information on Clinton that “would affect the campaign.” He claimed to have had “full confidence” in “the Russians.” In January 2017, he told the FBI that he was still “confident in his ability to get [Clinton] out of this.”

Papadopoulos resigned from the campaign in August of that year, but he remai호 게임ns a member of its national security team. The admini피망 포커stration has declined to say what, if any, role he will play in Trump’s administration, a situation that is likely to be resolved through his dismissal from the federal government.

In his role at Treasury, Papadopoulos will serve as “associate deputy assistant secretary for Asia and Pacific Affairs.” The role has been vacant since August 2014 when Michael Anton, who previously served as assistant secretary for Near Eastern affair
