Doubt cast over bat habitat plans for NSW farm

The Federal Government has rejected an industry initiative which would see bat colonies placed in farms on the Sunshine Coast.

The Northern Star Farms Bats Initiative would provide a large, permanent, indoor bat colony to improve rural bat habitat around the Northern Brisbane suburb of Derry.

Farmers from the Northern Star Farms would operate the colony on the Sunshine Coast near Derry and then move it to Townsville.

In July this year, the initiative was approved by the State Government, which is committed to reducing bat casualties across Queensland.

NSW Fisheries and Forestry’s Chief Executive John Barrow said he was disappointed the Federal Government would be opposed to the Northern Star Farms initiative.

“This is a project which is supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service as part of the existing plan for rehabilitation for the Northern Blue and White Subspecies populations,” Mr Barrow said.

“The proposal would require only the installation of an artificial island, similar in design to existing colonies, to enhance their natural에볼루션카지노 habitats and w일산출장샵 일산출장안마ould not change the nature of the existing nests within the northern farm.

“No decisions on the timing of the new colonies will be made until the new farms are in operation in the Northern Blue and White Subspecies.”

Labor’s environmental spokesman Mark Butler said farmers needed to live within their means.

“The Government should stand up for people’s rights and take an active part in ensuring a strong and resilient northern state,” Mr Butler said.

“I would be very surprised if, if the current government were still in charge in 2018, it would still consider supporting a proposal such as this.”

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the initiative was needed to help rebuild northern Australia’s once iconic bat habitat.

“The Northern Star Farms will take care of that area, it will allow us to create a good and natural environment to continue to recover from that,” he said.

“We are not going to rush this project, it’s something that has been considered for over 20 years.

“These proposals will take time to build and it will certainly include some very large, permanent islands.”
